About Us

Welcome to ATNR Web blog.

The Advanced Telecommunication and Network Research Lab (ATNR) is a  research group that combines the expertise from Electrical and Electronics, System & Network Management and Computer Engineering programs. We are operating under the Centre of Materials & Minerals (CMM), School of Engineering and Information Technology. Our work are funded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations (MoSTI) under the e-Science grants and Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) under the Fundamental Research Grant Schemes (FRGS).

Research Theme

1. Electronics and Communication

This theme encompasses an extensive range of activities over aspects of electronics relevant and/or critical to communication systems. We will use the basic concepts of quantum physics and information theory all the way up to applications of technologies to create seamless ways to interact with the information around us as well as with each other. This includes, among others, analog and digital systems, numerical and computational simulation and prototyping, data acquisition, smart sensors, photonics and electromagnetics.

2. Information and Communication Technology

This area of emphasis applies information and communication technology (ICT) to augment and transform human interaction and perception of the environment around us. For the past several years, ATNR has embarked on a research providing telemedicine services for rural areas. Other research initiatives we are going to undertake in the near future include: the application of ICT in aquaculture industry, development of technologies to enhance life-long learning, cellular-based applications and smart buildings.

3. Information Systems

This theme features analysis of complex systems and phenomena subject to uncertainty and statistical variability and development of advanced algorithms for the statistical analysis of signals and images. We are particularly interested in problems with large dimensionality for which computationally efficient data analysis is an issue (especially for information that is required to be sent over a communication network). We would like to solve these problems in these areas by applying concepts from statistical and probabilistic theory.

4. Logistics and Network

This theme encompasses the design of practical algorithmic solutions with theoretical understanding for problems arising in logistics and networks. Applications that we are currently working on include traffic networks and wireless sensor networks. This research theme builds upon knowledge of applied probability, information theory, artificial intelligence, and algorithms.

5. Wireless Communication Systems

In this theme, an extensive range of investigations are carried out in wireless communication systems including the applications of mathematical and statistical theories to communication, detection, and estimation, measurement and modeling of time-varying channels, design and analysis of multiple antenna systems, and software-defined radios.

Among the research areas we are currently conducting are:

  • Telemedicine
  • Location-Based Services (LBS)
  • Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs)
  • Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN)
  • Software Defined Radio (SDR)
  • Traffic Network

Contact Us

This research group is committed to the development of  research in the areas of telecommunications and networks, and willing to learn and explore new challenges in the area. With mind and arms wide open, we offer collaborations from other research groups who have the same dedication like us.
